Following a successful bid for Government funding last summer,
building works are underway for completion of the all-new Surgical, Diagnostic
and Treatment Hub at Dewsbury and District Hospital.
The state-of-the-art elective care centre is one of several hubs
opening across the country, aimed at tackling Covid-related backlogs,
significantly increasing clinical capacity and improving patient care and
experience.
The build will provide 2 theatres for day case operating under
general anaesthetic, 4 major treatment rooms for minor operations under local
anaesthetic, and 10 outpatient clinic rooms for assessment and diagnosis of
patients.
The hub will focus on the provision of high volume, low
complexity procedures only, from within the following surgical specialties
Plastics, OMFS, Gynaecology, Pain Management, Urology, Vascular, Colorectal,
General surgery and Upper GI.
The development of this new, elective care hub promises a number
of key benefits to both staff and patients alike. Such benefits include the
ability to provide increased access to healthcare services improving overall
experience, increased staff wellbeing, training and development opportunities.
The hub is scheduled for completion in early summer 2024, with
elective activity commencing soon afterwards. A full training and induction
package will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical leadership, teambuilding,
and communication skills. The candidate must have experience in working within
the surgical speciality and have excellent clinical skills. The candidate
should be committed to providing excellent patient care and should be able to
lead others to provide high quality care.
The successful candidate should have some experience of leading
a team, including managing staffing, skill mix, sickness and monitoring
standards of care provided to our patients. The post holder will uphold the
trust values and behaviours, act as role model to colleagues, junior members of
staff and students. The candidate will be expected to participate in
recruitment and selection, audit and managing daily patient flow through the
unit. The candidate will take charge of the department in the absence of the
Unit Manager.
The candidate is expected to be flexible and ready to uptake further
learning and personal development enabling them to work within all areas of the
Surgical Hub including acting as a Scrub Person, Anaesthetic Assistant,
Recovery Person, Circulating Person, Escort Person, Outpatient Clinics, Major
Treatment Rooms, Arrivals and Discharge within the limitations of the post
holders qualifications.
The candidate will be accountable to the Unit Manager supporting
them with implementing new ideas, changes and training and development of staff
as well as embedding a positive and open culture within the team.
