exciting opportunity has arisen to join the senior nursing team with in Urology Investigations Unit
Duties for this role include
Lead
for the Pontefract UIU as the Sister /Charge Nurse
Appraisals
and return to work interviews
Nurse
led clinics, assisting doctors with procedures and helping run our one stop
clinics, this is a growing venture to reduce patient waiting time and better
the patient pathway and experience. We
look after all aspects of urology such as catheter care, nephrostomy
care, prostate biopsies and trans perineal biopsies. Cystoscopy and Botox
treatment which the chosen candidate will be part of.
The
service runs across all 3 MY hospital sites in the 3 UIU's
Main duties of the job
The
post holder will carry responsibility for either a defined caseload or will
offer specialist service advice this will include, the assessment of care
needs and development implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
The
post holder will act as an expert nurse and provide advice and intervention to
a patient group, promote a seamless service within a multi-professional
framework and will contribute to the development of the speciality service.
This
will be achieved through the core dimensions of the role, clinical practice,
leadership, and acting as the patient advocate and through audit and education.
The

Job description
Job responsibilities
Will undertake specialist assessment of patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery using clinical knowledge and clinical skills.
Manage a patient caseload providing expert assessment, planning and evaluation.
Co-ordinate and manage nurse-led clinics within (Speciality).
Perform flexible cystoscopy
Contribute towards a multi-professional approach in the management of patients within the specialist area, especially in relation to investigative interventions, ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers / relatives.
Support patients and their families and ensure that they receive the required information to enable them to self-manage, lead or participate in their care delivery.
Recognise changes in patients condition that require the intervention of others and refer on as appropriate.
Work with the Team Leader and clinical colleagues to promote the development of nurses undertaking the CNO Ten Key Roles as considered appropriate.
Act as a role model and expert nurse providing specialist, clinical knowledge to clinical colleagues through MDT meetings / discussions for patients and carers / relatives.
Undertake clinical supervision of nursing colleagues on an individual or group basis.
Act as a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available, and accessible for support and advice in relation to the management of patients in the speciality.
Participate in the development of services and assist the Team Leader to implement change linked to division business plans.
Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources
Participate in the development of strategies for delivering effective specialist care within a changing environment that improves the quality of care and health outcomes in the specialist area.
Monitor health, safety and security of self and others and promote best practice in the clinical area.
Participate in ensuring systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation including promoting no blame cultures in order that near misses and incidents are reported.
Participate in investigation of incidents/complaints when required, including preparing detailed reports/letters to complainants.
Act as an innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues promoting an open and honest and transparent culture.
Continually monitor standards of care and contribute in the improvement of care through benchmarking, Nurse Sensitive Indicators, Clinical Audit and Research.
Support and facilitate research evidence-based practice in the specialist area
Disseminate good practice by pursuing opportunities to present work at national conferences or via publications.
Promote patient and public involvement activities in the specialist area leading to service improvement.
Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights.
Identify clinical issues and incidents within the Trust that reduce the quality of care within the specialist service.
