Job summary
The Burn Centre at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield is a
regional referral centre for individuals who have sustained both major and
minor burn injuries. The service consists of an adult burn centre and a childrens
burns unit and provides specialist care to patients who have been injured by
thermal injury or experienced skin loss disorders. The geographical catchment population
is 3.6 million and the area includes Yorkshire, Humber and North Lincolnshire.
The adult centre consists of 5 single cubicles and 2 ICU
beds for those patients with severe burns, working in close proximity to the
critical care department. The childrens burns unit consists of 5 single
cubicles, one having HDU facilities and cares for children with moderate
injuries. Within each department is also a busy burns ambulatory care service.

A rare opportunity has arisen to join our small team of outreach nurses' as a band 6 specialist burns nurse visiting patients (both adults
and children) in the community setting. The service runs Monday to Friday and includes visiting patients in their own homes, care homes, schools, prisons
and other hospitals.
Main duties of the job
To take responsibility and management for the co-ordination of identified patients requiring wound management (patient groups include adults, children, non-English speaking patients and those who find it difficult to travel to the burns unit including those in outlying hospitals, prisoners and those with special needs)
Autonomously assess and appropriately manage
patients using evidence based interventions.
To be responsible for identifying the need for
consultant review and liaising with the medical team to arrange this.
To contribute to the development of the burns
outreach service.
To develop policies, protocols and guidelines
for the use of the burns outreach service.
To attend Burn Care Network meetings and contribute to the network work agenda.
