Job summary

We are looking for someone who can follow strict procedures, has a good eye for detail, with good hand eye coordination and the ability to stay focused, to join our state of the art Flexible Scoping Decontamination Team. If you feel you have the attributes mentioned then we would really like to meet you.

You will assist in carrying out the receipt, decontamination, packing and storage of flexible endoscopes.

The role requires attention to detail and the ability to maintain quality and follow instructions whilst performing repeated procedures on every scope.

Hours of work will be between 12pm and 8pm Monday to Friday (number of days to be agreed at interview) with an expectation to also work some additional hours on Saturday.

Main duties of the job

This role involves the decontamination of flexible endoscopes.

You will manually clean Endoscopes prior to the automated wash cycles required to effectively clean a scope.

You will check scopes for good, clean, working order and re-package ready for use in clinical areas.

You must be able to pay attention to detail, communicate well with rest of team and our service users.

Good IT skill are required and the ability to follow strict procedures is essential.

You will need to record all aspects of the procedure on the department data base.

The process is repetitive but must be performed to the correct standards each and every time.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The manual cleaning and inspection of scopes, working the Endoscope Washer Disinfector, drying cabinets and scope packaging system.
  • Utilising and understanding the instrument tracking system
  • Participating in the general tidiness and cleaning of the department environment
  • Assist with the maintenance of stock control systems and maintain an economical use of commodities.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of appropriate stock levels having regard for the effective utilisation of resources.
  • Taking all precautions towards the safety of other members of staff during working hours.
  • Attending yearly mandatory updates including fire training and moving and handling.
  • Ensure work areas are maintained as safe and free from hazards as is possible during working activities.
  • An enthusiasm to participate in flexible scope decontamination induction and on the job training.
  • Following training the ability to demonstrate performance and capability
  • The ability to demonstrate dexterity and the ability to work in a methodical and systematic manner

  • Ability to demonstrate a customer focused approach and respond to the demands from the customer and service users to meet their critical requirements.
  • Participate in on call rota for theatre scopes decontamination
  • To prioritise work to help ensure equipment is available and ready to use within customer/user deadlines
