Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust as we seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and highly motivated senior leader, to join our senior leadership team. With a background in digital support services and infrastructure, the successful candidate will work alongside the Associate Director for Digital Services, CCIO and the Digital Services Senior Leadership Team to provide effective leadership and support to the teams responsible for delivery of digital services to the Trust.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience of leadership in an operational management role and will be able to work to an exceptional level in a fast-paced challenging environment, with the confidence to engage with our most senior leaders and executive directors.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the day-to-day proactive management and support of the infrastructure environment, 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support and cyber security. You will provide leadership to the key individuals within the teams, supporting their development, as well as ensuring a high standard of customer service to both internal and external customers.

Main duties of the job

The Digital Services department is responsible for the provision, maintenance and support of digital information and communication systems for the Trust including other local NHS Organisations and Health service providers that use our networks and infrastructure.

The post holder will provide comprehensive expertise and support to maintain develop and expand digital infrastructure services throughout the Trust. The post holder will also be expected to modernise and develop application and operation services in line with local and national business requirements.

The post holder is accountable for the day-to-day proactive management and support of the infrastructure environment, including server, application, telecoms and network environments serving the Trust. The post holder will be fully involved throughout transition and service delivery and act as a technical point of escalation.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the operational integrity of the infrastructure and services ensuring high levels of system availability and customer satisfaction are maintained.

The role will lead continuous service improvement programmes across Digital services and other services to ensure enhanced service improvement and will influence the Digital Strategy in conjunction with the Digital Services SLT, developing this into long term plans.

The post holder will be expected to act as Associate Director of Digital services when required to do so.

MYHT provides acute hospital services to more than half a million-people living in the Wakefield and North Kirklees districts of West Yorkshire. It offers services in three main hospitals, Pinderfields General Hospital, Dewsbury District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. In addition, the Trust provides community services to the people of Wakefield in a range of community settings such as health centres, clinics, GP surgeries, family centres and in patients own homes. The Trust provides two specialist regional services, for burns and spinal injuries, which are renowned across the North of England and beyond.

Leadership:

  • Lead, manage and develop the operational services teams within the Trust. Act as a point of escalation for operational service issues.
  • Responsibility for appraisals, sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance matters and for recruitment and selection of key Digital Service staff and other key staff in the Trust with specific digital roles with high digital dependencies.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the operational services management team, prioritising and planning key work and issues to ensure a high level of service is maintained and system failures/outages are minimal.
  • Provide technical leadership and escalation support across all Digital services teams.
  • Develop a customer-centric culture within the team and the wider Digital services department.
  • Undertake appropriate PKDRs and PDPs for Digital Services team managers ensuring all mandatory training requirements are met, staff are working to their required level of technical competence, developing staff to attain the competence levels required and as highlighted in appraisals, to ensure individuals are up to date with specialist training to fulfil their role.
  • Act on behalf of any member of the Senior Management Team and deputise for the Associate Director for Digital Services when required.

Service provision:

  • Assist the Associate Director of Digital Services in managing performance of the Digital Services department for their areas of responsibility, adopting a continuous improvement approach; proposing and implementing performance improvement recommendations in line with ITil best practices and other industry standards.
  • Accountable for appropriate tasks being completed within the necessary timescales, monitoring the teams' capacity and performance to ensure service delivery.
  • Provide leadership to those managing 3rd line support for all server compute and storage related calls/incidents ensuring a means of escalation is available at all times.
  • Ensure the Digital network and infrastructure remains secure and that other legislative practices are followed e.g.BS7799/BS15000/BS27001, H&S Act, DPA 2018 etc.
  • Act as Senior Responsible Officer for key programmes owned by Digital Operations, planning and organising activities, some of which will be highly complex, to ensure delivery.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting of any complex server compute and storage problems that require systematic changes to resolve.
  • Providing and managing an incident escalation process, including being responsible for communication to stakeholders in the event of systems outages.
  • Service owner for Infrastructure, responsible for change and release management following Digital Services and other digitally dependent services that require approval for system changes etc.,
  • Lead and manage the change management process for digital system changes being responsible for appropriate change control procedures being in place and adhered to.
  • Negotiate with all stakeholders on service issues and fixes, overcoming barriers through explaining extremely complex technical information in a way that is understood, negotiating and persuading stakeholders to approve business cases, system downtime etc., especially where this may be in conflict with service delivery.
  • Accountable for the central digital facilities including Trust data centres and networking cabinets ensuring environmental requirements, physical security and access is maintained.
  • Conduct research into emerging technologies, identify and recommend technologies and approaches that will increase cost effectiveness, infrastructure flexibility, stability, security and to support increased digital maturity.
  • Identify key risks and manage accordingly.
  • Support the on-going development, documentation, testing and delivery of the Trust's Digital Services disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Advise and inform key services, departments and stakeholders in respect of their business continuity processes and requirements.
  • Lead supplier reviews of infrastructure and other relevant systems and services with support from other Digital Services senior managers, Finance, Procurement and supplies departments.
