Job summary
To build
up a comprehensive level of experience and knowledge in mechanical maintenance
and plumbing/and piped services, minor new works through structured training and hands on work experience.
To achieve
an NVQ level 2 or equivalent in mechanical craft work during the first two
years.
The post
holder will gain experience in aspects of mechanical services including piped
water systems and distribution/storage, pressurised systems gas distribution
oil piped systems to broaden their knowledge base and to adapt to multi trade working
especially where mechanical and electrical services and plant are
inter-dependant.
The post
holder will ensure they keep up to date with changing technical requirements
within the NHS commensurate with the post via HTM (Hospital Technical Memoranda)
Health and Safety publications relating to Gas and Water storage and
distribution, additional training offered and technical trade literature.
During the
second and third year the post holder will be expected to learn all duties of
the mechanical crafts person (B4) and on completion of a recognised
apprenticeship and qualification the apprentice will become a qualified
mechanical maintenance craftsperson and be competent in all areas included in
duties and responsibilities of a band 4 mechanical trades person.
On the
final year (4th) the post holder will ensure he/she is qualified up
to NVQ3 in all mechanical systems and will continue to develop his/her skills
to multi-skilled across relevant trades.

properties and other organisations as directed.
2. To carry out planned maintenance work.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
To work closely with Ward Managers and work along side
patients and have an understanding of their needs whilst carrying out duties.
Establish good working relationships with all points of
contact with estate users, ensuring they are kept informed about the progress of
work as required.
Driving hospital vehicles and plant as required (not
H.G.V.).
The post
holder on completion of their training will be expected to participate in The
out of hours on call rota which involves multi skilling across all trades,
bringing you into contact with sewage and other bodily fluids (for which
protective equipment must be worn).
The post
holder will be expected to work at any properties throughout the Trust as
instructed by the Estates Officer (Operational).
The post
holder will on occasions be required to work overtime/change working hours if
the need of service dictates.
All Trust

in new skills as required to carry out work of the Trust.
To ensure
the appropriate use of safety and protective clothing and equipment, as
required by good working practice and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
