Job summary

The Digital Operations Team within the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trusts Digital Services look after the trust Cyber Security, Servers, Network and Data Storage, along with implementation of new systems and 3rd line support. The Cyber Security role links into all aspects of Digital Services third-line operations, but focuses on monitoring, defining, and overseeing the cyber security and IT security infrastructure and services on behalf of the trust. Doing this well helps protect all the Trusts key services.

The post holder will be part of the Digital Services cybersecurity team monitoring, reviewing, analysing, and interpreting incidents and alerts that may come in from the various security systems and reported via email or service desk. They will also be responsible for co-ordinating the technical resolution of any alerts, sometimes involving multiple colleagues across separate teams and departments.

Ideally we would like someone with cybersecurity related experience but more importantly we are seeking to recruit someone with a passion and desire to learn and develop in their role. The team you will be joining regularly invests time in training and development and has a great track record of promoting and developing its staff.

Main duties of the job

The proactive monitoring, reviewing, analysing, and interpreting of security incidents and alerts generated by countywide IT security systems, including Security Incident and Event Management solutions, ranging from Priority One incidents, such as a system being compromised or a security breach, to alerts relating to abnormal user or device behaviour, for example, anti-virus not installed or not updated for 30 days.

Conducting regular and frequent vulnerability assessments using a variety of tools and techniques relating to all devices.

Manage any identified vulnerabilities within an agreed timeframe or agree technical remedies to deal with them.

Working within the team to ensure that service requests, official investigations, planned maintenance and ad-hoc requests for information are prioritised and dealt with in a timely manner.

Reviewing new software, systems, and suppliers to ensure they do introduce additional security vulnerabilities into the trust, and that they meet the required standards for NHS Suppliers.

Essentially play a key role in ensuring the trust, it hospitals and patients are protected against cyber attacks in all their forms. Over time you will become an acknowledged expert on all things cyber.

Supporting Digital Services cybersecurity audit submissions to ensure we continue to meet the standards expected by us as a modern NHS Trust.

Job responsibilities

  • Maintenance and support of the storage area network (SAN) and provide knowledge on server and storage configuration and associated topics
  • Maintenance and support of Microsoft Always on VPN and or MS RRAS
  • Maintain and support of physical server infrastructure and virtual server environment and operating systems as well as a virtual desktop infrastructure
  • Working closely with other team members to support IT applications. e.g. Microsoft Active Directory, RD-Web, VMWare, System Centre Configuration Manager, SQL Server, Cisco networking and telephony
  • Provide expertise to the implementation and ongoing support of systems and services
  • Contribute to the production of new methodologies and solutions as required
  • Identify and diagnose system problems, providing resolution or temporary workaround options
