Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time ward clerk to join our team on Gate 43. Gate 43 is a 44-bedded acute elderly care inpatient ward at Pinderfields Hospital, providing care to patient requiring ongoing assessment and care. The role is an administrative post that will support the team to access the appropriate information on the Trust's IT systems and ensure that all patient information is kept up to date and remains confidential.
The ward clerks are also responsible for ensuring admission documentation is prepared, ready for the patients when they arrive. The role also entails general administration responsibilities as well as answering the phone and speaking with patient relatives and other healthcare professionals and providers regarding patients on the unit. You will be an integral member of the ward, providing effective day-to-day clerical support to facilitate the smooth running of ward and patient flow.
This post is part-time working two to three days per week covering a seven-day service.

Main duties of the job
The ward clerk is responsible for much of the administrative work on the unit. The role also involves reception work, dealing with phone calls from other professionals and relatives, welcoming patients and visitors to the unit and arranging appointments with other clinical departments within the hospital.
The ward clerk attends the daily clinical board round to provide support for the clinical team when identifying discharges, step downs and patient transfers as well as identifying patients who may require additional investigations arranging or treatment in other departments.
The ward clerk supports the clinical team by assisting with ongoing discharge planning such as arranging patient transport, medication, outpatients appointments and communicating with other care providers within the community including care homes, carers and Age UK.

- Provide an efficient customer service, dealing with enquiries from Patients, and their families, Medical Staff, and all members of the wider Multi-Disciplinary team

- Take appropriate action on receipt of test results / correspondence.
- Book ambulances, interpreters and other supportive services
