Job summary

Gate 42 is a 45 bedded, orthogeriatric ward at Pinderfields Hospital. Gate 42 receives patients from both the neighbouring assessment unit Gate 41, and the Emergency Department. The ward works closely with the Ortopedic specialist nurse team that has a sister and two Band 3 support workers that provide seven day cover.

This acute care of the elderly and fractured neck of femur ward provides care to patients both post operatively and requiring ongoing assessment and care.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated individual to support the nursing team and ward manager. You will have an understanding of effective leadership skills and demonstrate effective and efficient use of resources available.Your proactive and compassionate approach to the staff and delivery of patient care will enable you to act as support, supervisor and teacher to all staff. You must have the ability to lead and work with existing motivated and dedicated nursing staff. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high standards of patient care.

Essential qualities that you will need to demonstrate will include: professional leadership, ability to embrace and implement change and effective communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to enhance the patient - centered experience.

The Senior Registered Nurse will:

  • Within the frame of clinical governance assist the senior sister/ charge nurse to be proactive in responding to and investigating complaints, clinical and non-clinical incidents to ensure robust systems are in place for informing and improving evidence based practice.

  • Assist in maintaining a safe clinical environment through participation in risk management processes, through audit, risk assessment, managing, reporting and investigating incidents.
