Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Decontamination Services Department for an Apprentice Technician at Pinderfields Hospital.
To be eligible for a funded apprenticeship, you must be over the age of 16, a resident in the UK for the last 3 years and you must not hold a level 3 qualification (or above) or an NVQ Level 2 qualification in the same pathway or subject, e.g., BTEC or GCSE.
The duration of this apprenticeship programme will be 12 to 18 months and you will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Science. This qualification will be administered through satisfactory attendance with the registered provider and satisfactory completion.
This is a full time position, 36.5 hours per week, working on a 4 week rolling rota with varied shifts patterns between 08.00am to 20.00pm. This includes rostered weekends.

Main duties of the job
To work as an integral part of the department team in the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, re-assembly, packing and sterilisation of surgical instruments (medical devices). Recording all tasks on the departments computerised tracking and tracing system.
To work at all times in accordance with the department Standard Operating Procedures and the Quality Management System BS EN ISO 13485 MDD 93/42 EEC (MHRA) Annex Sterility Aspects only.
To assist Decontamination Services Technicians and Supervisors in providing a specialized decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of patients.

To reprocess reusable medical devices under supervision; disassemble, clean, disinfect, check, assemble, sterilize, despatch and track in a controlled environment.
Under supervision, meet the demands of the departments workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards which will be measured by in process checks and non-conformance reports.
To use manual dexterity and concentration for the disassembly and reassembly of the reusable medical devices in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
To operate decontamination equipment (washer disinfectors and sterilizers) and carry out routine tests in accordance with Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedule, Quality Standards and Guidance.
To communicate with enquiries from users in a polite and helpful manner, seeking advice when required.
Receive tray orders from service users, assemble order into theatre case carts and deliver to theatres in a timely manner to ensure theatre list can commence as scheduled.
Deliver urgent products to Theatres/Departments as necessary.
The post holder will be expected to participate in rostered Bank Holiday work and cover shifts as necessary for the provision of the service.
