Mid Yorkshire Hospitals is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Maternity Support Workers to join our Maternity team.

Approximately 5,900 women each year choose to birth at Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. We provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care across the Wakefield district and North Kirklees.

At Mid Yorkshire Hospitals we are continuing to implement the National maternity Transformation Programme alongside our colleagues in the local maternity System (LMS) the Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) and other community partners.

The Maternity Support Worker will work with the Maternity Team to ensure that women receive high quality care and an excellent experience whilst in Maternity services.

Main duties of the job

The Maternity Support Worker will support the Specialist Midwifery team in the community to ensure migrant women get good quality of maternity service and care. You will work with our midwives to provide planned care to pregnant and postnatal women, babies and families within the hospital/community setting. The overarching responsibilities are to support the multidisciplinary team in ensuring women receive individualised, evidence based care.

Job responsibilities

  • To assist the Midwife in the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of care of women babies and families.
  • Undertake basic care planning and decision making regarding how care is delivered, under the direction of a Registered Midwife.
  • Have the ability to organise their own daily workload, when delegated.
  • Work flexibly following procedures, guidelines, and best working practices within a confidential environment.
  • To provide additional support for women and families with complex clinical or social needs in community/hospital setting.
  • To support and assist women to achieve successful infant feeding in accordance with the local policies and guidelines, giving clear and consistent information.
