Labour Ward coordinator / Prompt Coordinator

Are you an experienced Labour ward midwife with a passion for excellence in clinical leadership?

Approximately 5,900 women each year choose to birth at Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. We provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care across the Wakefield district and North Kirklees.

At Mid Yorkshire hospitals we are continuing to implement the National maternity Transformation Programme alongside our colleagues in the local maternity System (LMS) the Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) and other community partners.

Main duties of the job

The Maternity Team at Mid Yorkshire Hospital Trust are seeking a senior midwife skilled in supporting excellence in care through periods of change. 80% (30 hours labour ward) coordination and 20% (7.5 hours) Prompt coordination and training.

Based on our Labour Ward, this post is suitable for a midwife with demonstrable experience of service improvement.

The right candidate will be a fully trained PROMPT facilitator with strong clinical leadership, expert midwifery practice and the enthusiasm and drive required to ensure that all women and families receive kind, compassionate and personalised care.

Above all we are looking for someone with the ability to lead and inspire whilst sharing our vision of providing continuity of care to all women who access our service.

In return we offer a comprehensive induction and ongoing training programme, supported by our clinical education team, specialist midwives and triumvirate team.

  • To monitor professional practice within the clinical area in order to provide the highest standard of care, developing and strengthening Midwifery roles where appropriate.
  • To provide midwifery leadership, advice and support midwives employed within the Trust. In promoting and advocating women centred care
  • Proactively strive for continuous improvements in the delivery of high quality women focused care.
  • Maintain and safeguard professional appearance in line with the Trust dress code

Communication Responsibilities

  • Ensure that effective communication channels are maintained within the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of care
  • Can lead and contribute to team brief and morning handover clearly articulating risk and concerns.
  • Ensure that there are clear lines of communication to the Ward Manger, Matron and Head of Midwifery when escalating patient, staffing or environment concerns accurately reporting and identifying OPEL scores.
  • Liaise regularly with all departments and professionals with the aim of providing a seamless service particularly when undertaking a Second Band 7 on shift role.
  • Actively participate in meetings as required within the Womens Services.
