Job summary

Would you like to provide speech and language therapy for children with Hearing Impairment and Complex Special Needs. Due to maternity leave we have an opportunity for you to be a important part of an established community SLT team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospital, on a fixed term basis. The successful candidate would provided therapy within HI Resources and a range of Special Schools across the district.Our SLT's benefit from robust supervision alongside encouraging CPD and innovative practice. You will be part of the special school team and will be supported within the friendly inclusive therapy department. The team offers a full induction programme, regular team meetings and peer support. Main duties of the job

To provide Speech and Language assessment and interventions to nursery and school-aged children with complex communication difficulties in special schools.

To support children with hearing impairment who are placed within the local authority mainstream primary and secondary resourced provisions.

To provide clinical expertise to colleagues within the SLT team offering clinical supervision as required

To offer training to others both internally and externally regarding communication development.

To ensure all client care is assessed, planned and evaluated according to RCSLT guidelines.

To undertake appropriate holistic and specific assessments in order to determine a child's speech, language and communication needs then plan, implement and evaluate care, determining goals and outcomes for children with hearing impairment, complex communication and social difficulties with possible complex medical difficulties.

To work clinically with clients presenting with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs, initiating and promoting excellence in clinical practice acting as a role model to junior staff.

To support the use of AAC with clients

To support the dysphagia team at a non-qualified level through observation and basic information gathering

To be aware of & contribute to Risk Management

To contribute to Clinical Governance initiatives

To maintain a culture which recognises and works in partnership with clients and carers, involving them in all decisions relating to care delivery.

To work with the Local Authority, private, third and voluntary services, ensuring effective timely communication between all agencies & to ensure all interventions and goal plans are complied with.

To liaise effectively with colleagues, other agencies, clients and their carers to ensure an efficient system of communication. Be able to vary how information is communicated dependent on the recipients, this may include difficult or sensitive information. To attend & participate in regular team meetings.

To demonstrate and maintain own knowledge and awareness of recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding the needs of vulnerable children. Including participation in regular safeguarding supervision at least once every 12 weeks, in line with trust policy. To attend multi-agency safeguarding meetings as required.

To attend designated meetings and ensure accurate feedback of any changes to clients communication difficulties.

To participate in clinical supervision ensuring that practice is maintained at high levels and is evaluated utilising appropriate mechanisms.

To provide regular clinical supervision for members of the team

To encourage contributions and suggestions from staff to improve the delivery of high-quality service within the department.

To be pro-active in self-development by participating in learning opportunities provided through staff training and supervision.

Maintain and update skills and knowledge through life-long learning, especially within the sphere of children's services.

To provide opportunities for student training as required & liaise with HEIs as appropriate.

To undertake all mandatory/essential training as required by MYHT.

To take the lead in team developments as designated by the line manager.

To maintain standards in ongoing health information, both electronic and paper-based, ensuring safe keeping and confidentiality, accurate record keeping of relevant data and profiling. To input clinical information onto SystmOne as per MYHT policy.
