The Pathology Department at The
Mid Yorkshire Hospitals is looking for Phlebotomy, Anti-Coagulation, Specimen Reception
and Point of Care Manager.
The Mid
Yorkshire Hospitals Trust covers three Hospitals, Pinderfields at Wakefield,
Pontefract and Dewsbury Hospitals. The post holder will be part of the
Pathology Management Team and in association with the Deputy Director of
Operations -Pathology and Head of Clinical Services have the role of developing
the service to meet the needs of the Trust. The Phlebotomy service covers all 3
hospital as well as community clinics and home visits, working alongside the
anti-coagulation service. Point of Care Service is a rapidly developing with
new tests and technology across the 3 sites.
With a management or professional qualification at
post-graduate level or equivalent, you should bring strong operational
management experience gained within the health service. The proven ability to
lead and inspire teams to deliver excellent patient-focused services is also
essential. The ideal
candidate will be someone with the vision, drive, proven leadership experience
and excellent organisational skills to maintain service requirements. The
ability to motivate and encourage all staff groups through a period of
significant change is essential.
Main duties of the job
To
manage the staff and scientific and technical activities of the Phlebotomy, Specimen Reception, Anti-Coagulation and Point of Care department on all sites. To carry out
management of Pathology Staff band 2 to
7 and support grade staff within that department. To carry out specialised or
complex work as required.

- Key objectives include ensuring that:

- High professional and technical standards, (e.g. Departmental Standard Operating Procedures, Trust and National Policies), are promoted and maintained at all times for all staff under their management, and in line with the UKAS guidelines and compliant with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 (BSQR)
- That all Biomedical Scientists, POCT staff, Specimen Reception and Phlebotomist grades under their management (within the department) fully understand, work to, and implement the agreed departmental procedures and policies set out by the Pathology Service Manager, Deputy Director of Operations -Pathology and Clinical Head of Department. That staff fully understand, work to, and implement all other authorised policies and procedures (including health and safety procedures)
- The training and mentoring requirements of all the staff are identified through the appraisal system, and met, in order to achieve the overall aims of the individuals and the department.
- Service developments to improve effectiveness are identified, assessed and where appropriate implemented after consultation with the Clinical Head of Department and Deputy Director of Operations -Pathology
- New policies and procedures are developed, documented, and changes implemented to policies or working practices of the department, as agreed with the Deputy Director of Operations -Pathology and/or Clinical Head of Department as appropriate.
