Job summary
We are extending our Divisional
senior leadership team and recruiting to a new Head of Nursing for Children's
and Clinical Support Services. Working in close partnership with the Director
of Midwifery and Women's Services, and alongside the children's quadrumvirate
leadership team, the Head of Nursing will be responsible for driving positive
cultural, professional and clinical change across children's services.
We are looking for a credible, dynamic and innovative nurse who will lead with compassion and confidence, empowering and supporting our teams of clinical and specialist nurses to achieve excellence in patient care and staff experience. The post holder will provide visible leadership consistent with the Trust Vision and Values.
The interviews will be taking place on Tuesday 5th March 2024.
Main duties of the job
Over the last few years, we have developed a strong nursing, operational and clinical leadership team. Were looking for someone who will complement our existing skills and expertise; someone who is committed to helping us go further faster in progressing service developments which reflect professional, clinical, and corporate objectives.
The successful candidate will be required to deputise for the Director of Midwifery locally, regionally and nationally as appropriate. This will include representing the Trust at a range of clinical network meetings and working groups. They will be accountable for overseeing the implementation of systems for assuring and monitoring the quality and safety of patient care and experience and will contribute actively to strategic discussions and Board assurance processes as agreed with the Director of Midwifery and Womens Health.

Provide strategic and transformational leadership to support, guide and
develop nursing staff.
Ensure the safety and well-being of patients, service users and
colleagues taking any necessary preventative or corrective action as soon as
appropriate to prevent any deterioration in service standards or effect on the
safety and welfare of patients and staff.
Manage through effective and responsive leaders at ward level, a safe
and high- performance patient flow at all times.
Ensure effective communication with other disciplines enabling a
positive working relationship with clinicians and managers to ensure that the

Continually review the model of nursing and patient care pathways within
the Division and implement best practice at all times.
Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategy for
nursing and midwifery with the Director of Midwifery and Womens Health,
ensuring improvement against an agreed set of performance indicators.
Work in partnership with the Head of Clinical Services on all matters
relating to clinical governance and take specific leadership responsibilities
for infection prevention and control.
Manage nursing within an agreed nursing budget having flexibility to
alter the nursing
skill mix in
accordance with the
framework established by the Trust.
Work with the Director of Midwifery and Womens Health provide the
nursing leadership within the Division on matters relating to emergency
planning and the major incident plan.
Work with colleagues within the Trust and with partners across the
health and social care economy to ensure that patient care services are
developed and managed seamlessly, particularly when transferring care from one
provider to another or when receiving patients from other organisations.
Provide specific nurse leadership to any targeted accountabilities
within the Division relating to external networks.
Work in the best interest of patients, service users and the wider
organisation and act as an ambassador of the Trust in ensuring that self and
others within the Division represent practice to the highest professional
standards at all times.
Be a visible professional role model. Providing strong experience in
facilitative clinical leadership ensuring that preventative corrective action
is taken as soon as possible to prevent any deterioration in service standards
or effect on the safety and welfare on patients and staff. The Head of Nursing will promote the
progression of nursing services within the Division and ensure timely feedback
is provided.
Enable the development of matrons and ward sisters/charge nurses
ensuring that they have clarity of role and purpose and receive regular
feedback and appraisal in relation to their role as leaders.
