Job summary
The Blood Transfusion Department within Pathology at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, is looking to recruit a full time Biomedical Support worker. You will work alongside other scientific, clerical and admin staff within the Pathology team, in addition to other professionals outside of the laboratory. The role will be based at the Pinderfields site with travel to other sites expected as and when required.
Main duties of the job
You will provide support to laboratory Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, Transfusion Practitioners and other Trust Healthcare professionals on the Electronic Blood Tracking system. You will monitor and maintain the system across 3 hospital sites (Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury), this is in addition to other Transfusion laboratory duties. Equipment faults will be reported in a timely manner and you will assist with other administrative tasks utilising IT systems as required.
Hours of work will be Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm, with flexibility.

Maintain, clean, and check EBT equipment
according to departmental and manufacturer protocols.
Report
EBT Laboratory equipment issues to the supplier and liaise, to ensure timely
resolution.
Maintain the asset inventory for EBT equipment
within, and external to the Laboratory.
Update
the asset register when maintenance, servicing and/or repair has been
completed.
Ensure EBT data is maintained and up to date e.g.,
starters/leavers.
Generate reports for use in audits, management
reports and continuous improvements.
Provide training to users as and when required.
Notify a senior member of staff if EBT consumables
fall below agreed levels.
Maintain a flexible approach to the post to
manage changes in workload, patterns, and requirements, be able to prioritise
own workload/duties.
Perform work strictly according to current
Standard Operating Procedures and protocols, in order to facilitate the provision
of an accurate and timely service to users.
Ensure that any EBT deliveries are received, and
paperwork is prepared and completed in accordance with current laboratory
procedures.
Ensure that EBT resources are used efficiently
and effectively in conjunction with senior BMS.
To deal with any spillages of noxious and toxic
chemicals and bodily fluids according to standard operating procedures.
To take responsibility to resolve day to day
issues, e.g. EBT alerts and take
corrective action to rectify within scope of practice.
To provide proposed changes to SOPs/procedures
relating to the EBT system.
To comply with good working practices in
accordance with the standards of UKAS ISO 15189 Accreditation and MHRA/BSQR
(2005) Regulations.
