Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen, for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Information Analyst to work in the Infection Prevention and Control Team at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

As a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team, you will be expected to work both independently and as part of a larger team, delivering the infection prevention and control agenda across the community and acute health care sector.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work in supporting the Infection Prevention and Control Team in the delivery of the Trusts healthcare associated infection surveillance and audit programme. Main responsibilities include: the collection and analysis of data from a range of sources including clinical areas, such as hospital wards and departments; the input of data into established databases; the analysis and dissemination of results and the production of reports.

The successful applicant will be required to work autonomously (as well as part of a team), be able to manage own workload, have the ability to work under pressure and to expected deadlines and have a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Extensive knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Email applications and proven experience in the extracting, collating, interpreting and analysing of data is essential. A keen interest in infection prevention and control/knowledge/experience would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • To collect data in a variety of forms and methods from a range of sources including clinical settings and databases such as patient administrative systems (ECaMIS) and laboratory/pathology systems (ILAB)
  • Undertake audits in clinical settings, analyse findings and produce reports

  • Collate and analyse data using appropriate epidemiological measures and statistical tests, seeking expert advice where appropriate and alert the infection prevention and control team to increased incidence
  • Produce structured accurate reports, including graphical presentations, in a clear legible format
  • Disseminate results to relevant individuals in a timely manner
  • Be responsible for data collection, input and management of the Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Service (SSISS) mandatory surveillance of surgical site infections for the Trust
  • To be responsible for specific targeted surveillance and audit as directed by the Infection Prevention and Control Team
  • To work autonomously and manage own workload of audit/surveillance whilst working as part of a team
  • Provide surveillance-based support during outbreaks of infection
  • Present results and findings to relevant groups in a format that is understandable and clear
  • Create and maintain databases as required to support new and existing data collection and analysis
  • Prioritise and respond to requests for HCAI information and analysis
  • Ensure completion of audits/surveillance to meet expected deadlines
  • Contribute to the Director of Infection Prevention and Control annual and other relevant reports
