Deputy Director of Improvement

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust

The closing date is 20 May 2024

Job summary

We have a vision to achieve excellent patient experience, each and every time. This is set out within the Trusts Strategy Delivering My Future.

The Trust is on a journey towards a positive and supportive culture, in which continuous improvement is part of everyday work. There have been great achievements, with many projects that have transformed aspects of services and improvement in staff experience, however, we know this is inconsistent. Over the last year there has been further work to help achieve greater consistency within leadership, approach to work and behaviour -including MY Values into Action, a new accountability framework, a fresh look at our improvement and transformation priorities, Board development work, etc.

But to truly shift the dial, quickly and consistently, do we need to take a look at how we connect all these pieces of work into one framework that becomes how we all do things around here? This means bringing together our approaches to improvement, quality and safety, leadership and culture in order to deliver on our strategy and draw a clear line for teams between objectives at their level and the strategic goals of the Trust. During February and March we undertook a readiness assessment to support development of a roadmap to ensure continuous quality improvement is embedded throughout our Trust and we empower and equip all our frontline teams to be able to do this as part of daily work.

Main duties of the job

The postholder is responsible for the continued design, implementation and maintenance of the Trust approach to improvement which incorporates how we organise, deliver and improve to achieve our strategy. This will also incorporate the leadership and delivery of all the Trusts value stream improvements, working collaboratively with the divisional and clinical teams, prioritising where the greatest opportunities are based on evidence and information. The Deputy Director of Improvement will ensure our quality improvement approach is underpinned by our values and behaviours to embed continuous improvement across all our services and teams, at every level of the Trust in order to provide the innovative and exceptional standards of patient care and experience the Trust is striving to provide.

Odgers Berndtson are supporting the Trust with this appointment. For an informal and confidential conversation about this role please contact our recruitment partner Hannah Wade - Hannah.wade@odgersberndtson.com.

Please do not submit an application via NHS Jobs; we are unable to forward any application onto Odgers Berndtson so your application will only progress if submitted directly to Odgers Berndtson.

About us

We provide care and support to over a million people in Wakefield and Kirklees in their homes, community settings and across our three hospital sites at Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields (Wakefield).

Always striving for excellence, we are at the forefront of innovation and research, and we invest in teaching and the development of our workforce.

We live by our values of caring, improving, being respectful and maintaining high standards. We listen and learn because we aim to make Mid Yorkshire the best place to work and receive care.

We value diversity and welcome talent and enthusiasm irrespective of age, disability, neurodivergence, sex, gender identity and gender expression, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances including providing unpaid carers support to someone with a health and care need. As ethnic minority groups, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with a disability/neurodivergence are currently under-represented across the organisation, we encourage applications from members of these groups. We have policies and procedures to ensure all applicants are treated fairly and consistently.

We are proud of our staff networks - who offer valuable guidance and feedback from those with lived experience.

We have a clear vision and you could be part of this! If you share our values and you want to make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families and carers, we would love to hear from you.
