The Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries
Centre (YRSIC) requires Consultant to complement the medical team of the YRSIC
at Pinderfields General Hospital, Wakefield.
You will join a team of a Consultant in
Spinal Injuries, Consultant Neurologists, Consultant Neurophysiologists and a
Consultant in Neurological Rehabilitation.
You will assist in delivering holistic patient focused care by
multi-disciplinary and multi-speciality collaboration.
The Neurosciences Unit provides a
sub-regional Neurological Service to parts of West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire
and South Yorkshire.

Main duties of the job
The main
duties of the post include the following to
Participate in providing leadership and direction to the
Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre
Promote a close working relationship between all those who
collectively form the Spinal Injuries Centre Multi-Disciplinary Team and lead
the activities of this team.
Participate fully in the Trusts clinical Governance
framework.
Participate in all clinical research and audit undertaken in
the Centre and produce an annual report on the activities of the Centre.
Participate fully in the teaching of medical, nursing and
paramedical professionals at all levels and specifically in the supervision,
training and development of junior medical staff working in or attached to the
Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre.
To undertake managerial and budgetary duties, as appropriate.
On-call duties (category A) are currently shared with the other
Spinal Injuries Consultant in a 1:3 ratio, which currently assessed as 0.5 PA.
To be able to contribute to rehabilitation surgical
procedures including intrathecal drug delivery devices for spasticity and
pressure sore management.
To participate in the Local and regional meetings
To undertake work on behalf of the Trust such as Domiciliary
Consultants or services provided for other agencies as appropriate.

This post will also include cover at Dewsbury hospital to support Neuro
Rehabilitation ward when the existing post holder is not available. This will
include 2 weekly ward rounds and MDT meetings. The post holder will also be
required to support the Neuro Rehabilitation ward when the existing post holder
is not available. This cover will include the post-Ward outpatient clinic at
Dewsbury hospital which is a post discharge follow-up clinic and long-term
neuro disability clinic for those individuals requiring care closer to home at
Dewsbury. There will be a clinic at Pinderfields Hospital combined with the
consultant in Neurological Rehabilitation for individuals with long-term disabilities.
