This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although
less than full time applications will be considered.
Whilst
the role will be based primarily at our Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in
Wakefield, we provide services at our other hospital sites; Dewsbury and
District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. The department provides Secretarial support and
office accommodation in the Eye Centre.
The department has the support of Optometrists, Orthoptists, Specialist
Nurses and Eye Clinic Liaison Officers.
The Ophthalmology department
unit serves a population of around 650,000 in Wakefield, Pontefract and
Dewsbury area. The main hub is in Wakefield in a purpose built unit (Eye
Centre) which opened 5 years ago. Ophthalmic services at Pontefract and
Dewsbury too have dedicated staff and equipment for full provision of
ophthalmic services, They are fully equipped with modern out-patient facilities
including clinic rooms, Orthoptic and Optometric departments, visual fields,
Argon, YAG and SLT lasers, and a fully linked imaging suite which has anterior
and posterior segment imaging including OCT, Fundus photography, Fluorescein
and OCT angiography and auto-fluorescence imaging .
A 24-hour emergency clinic sees
around 11,800 patients per year. The
main hospital sites house MRI, CT and Ultra-sound imaging.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post will include:
Lead Glaucoma service - supporting the provision
of Glaucoma and General services
Delivery of outpatient clinics and day case glaucoma
surgery ( invasive and non-invasive) and cataract surgery
Urgent and Emergency Care duties including
out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of
working time regulations and safe working
On-call duties are currently shared with 8 other
colleagues on a 1:7.5 rota, currently assessed as 1PA.
2 Supporting Professional Activities will be offered to the successful
candidate for which appropriate objectives will be agreed in accordance with
the Trust Framework* and national Terms and Conditions of Service (*1.5 Trust
minimum plus additional 0.5SPA made available) o Examples may include formal teaching
responsibilities or departmental leadership roles
