Job summary
In this role, you will have the opportunity to personally
make a difference to our patients lives and the lives of their carers and
relatives every single day. Our Healthcare Assistants work at the heart of our
multidisciplinary teams who support our patients by assisting the Registered
Nurses in planning, delivering, and evaluating care. This will require you: to
be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both
verbally and in writing; to share our commitment to maintaining high standards
in everything we do; and to demonstrate that you can work effectively within a
team that behaves in accordance with our values.
The roles are varied and busy as you will be working a
variety of shifts including long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. We
will support you to achieve full training for your core duties including
achievement of a national Care Certificate, and we will support your continued
development.
To be eligible to work as a Healthcare Assistant Apprentice
we expect that you have Level 1 Functional Skills in Numeracy and English or
equivalent GCSE levels.
Once you have successfully completed your apprenticeship,
you will automatically become a Healthcare Assistant. To be eligible for a funded
apprenticeship, you must be over the age of 16, a resident in the UK for the
last three years and you must not hold a level 3 qualification (or above) or an
NVQ Level 2 qualification in the same pathway or subject, e.g. BTEC or GCSE.
Main duties of the job
- Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet
the needs of patients and their families.
- Assist the Registered Practitioner in the planning
implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
- Participate in the development of self and others.

- At the direction of the Registered Nurse, participate fully
in the delivery of planned nursing care, using a wide range of clinical skills.
- Participate in the admission, transfer and discharge of
patients.
- Assist in all aspects of personnel hygiene and toileting
needs of patients.
- Assist with the service of meals and the feeding of patients
as needed.
- Assist with the safe moving, handling and mobilisation of patients.
- Involve patients and carers/relatives in delivery of patient
care.
- Provide reassurance and support to patients, carers/family.
- Preserve clients privacy and dignity at all times.
- Following appropriate training and education, supervision
and completion of competencies. Monitor patients vital signs, including
immediate post operative, during blood transfusion and the monitoring of blood
glucose levels.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency
situations.
- Provide information to enable the effectiveness of care to
be evaluated and records maintained.
- Participate in the maintenance of accurate records of care.
