Permanent Healthcare Assistant within the Acute Care Division

Main duties of the job

Dewsbury Emergency department is a fast paced busy category 1 Emergency Department the purpose of the department is to provide treatment of serious and potential life threatening conditions. In the emergency department as part of the multi-disciplinary team we treat a variety of patients who walk into the department to those low acuity patients who arrive via ambulance. We care for a vast range of patients with a wide variety of injuries/illness providing vast opportunities learning new skills and opportunities.

The Acute Assessment Unit (Gate 12) is a 63 bedded Acute Assessment Unit. Thepurpose of the Acute Assessment Unit is for the assessment and treatment of patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions.Patients are discharged home or admitted to a specialty base ward for further ongoing care and treatment. We work very closely with different medical specialties within the trust, specialty nurses and different members of the multi-disciplinary team. We provide care for patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions providing fantastic learning opportunities and opportunities to develop new skills and care for a broad range of patients.

The Emergency Department at Pinderfields is a fast paced busy department caring for critically ill and injured patients. The HCA role includes providing high quality patient care. You will be part of a team involved in the triage assessment and ongoing care to ill and injured patients.

  • At the direction of the Registered Nurse, participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care, using a wide range of clinical skills.
  • Participate in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Assist in all aspects of personnel hygiene and toileting needs of patients.
  • Assist with the service of meals and the feeding of patients as needed.
  • Assist with the safe moving, handling and mobilisation of patients.
  • Involve patients and carers/relatives in delivery of patient care.
  • Provide reassurance and support to patients, carers/family.
  • Preserve clients privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Following appropriate training and education, supervision and completion of competencies. Monitor patients vital signs, including in resuscitation areas, during blood transfusion and the monitoring of blood glucose levels.
