Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and technically skilled individual to join our Estates team as a Decontamination Specialist Estates Officer.

The post holder will be a senior member of a specialist team responsible for delivering a comprehensive programme of maintenance, testing, and validation of all medical device decontamination equipment across the Trust. This includes porous load sterilisers, washer disinfectors, clean steam systems, and engineering plant within HSDU and FSDU environments, along with associated systems and specialist facilities.

This role offers a structured development pathway towards becoming an Authorised Person (AP) for Decontamination.

The successful candidate will:

Support the Estates Manager (Decontamination) in delivering specialist services

  • Work as a developing second AP within the team
  • Undertake formal training aligned with HTM guidance
  • Gain practical, hands-on experience in decontamination systems
  • Progressively take on delegated responsibilities under supervision

There is a clear expectation that the post holder will achieve full AP status within an agreed timeframe, demonstrating the required technical competence, training, and experience.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will carry out planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, testing and validation on all medical device decontamination equipment as listed above to ensure medical devices for invasive procedures are decontaminated in compliance with HTM01-01, HTM01-06, HTM2010, HTM2030 and HTM2031.
  • The post holder will provide a planned and breakdown repair service on all complex engineering services associated with decontamination equipment and respective specialist accommodation.
  • The post holder will provide advice on the decontamination equipment to Estates and other disciplines.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and quality assurance processes
