The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust

Registered Nurse

The closing date is 21 April 2026

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our experienced specialist Team.

As a Registered Nurse with Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, you will be working together as part of a multidisciplinary, professional team to assess care needs, and develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.

Our staff are committed to providing high standards of individualised care for the people who use our services, whilst maintaining their privacy and dignity at all times.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the eye and visual system. Eye health services are becoming more and more important as the UK population ages.

An ageing population means there are more and more incidences of age-related diseases of the eye, such as age-related macular degeneration. These eye diseases can be successfully treated if caught early, and can be managed effectively with existing treatments and medicines.

The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, multidiscipline team working together to achieve the best outcome for our patients. This role presents the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others by providing care in their time of need.

Whilst experience is desired, it is not essential, a comprehensive training package can be delivered.

Main duties of the job

The Ophthalmology department cares for patients of all ages attending a wide range of ophthalmic clinics. We have Doctor and Nurse led clinics on all sites. Within this post you will work in general and specialised Ophthalmology clinics including emergencies, speciality clinic's and nurse led assessment's. This post also has opportunities to support day care surgical lists occasionally.

If required you will undergo in house training specialising in Ophthalmic Nursing care and development, with the opportunity in the future to undertake the specialised courses.

You will be expected to complete the ophthalmic competencies that are required to work in the department.
