Job summary
You will join the Physician Associate faculty within our respiratory department, designed for registered PAs with drive and passion to develop their careers and challenge themselves in modern, state-of-the-art facilities, as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team. Our new bespoke hospital facilities are complemented by excellent training and education centres. These posts will be tailored to experienced PAs and will be working within our respiratory department providing unrivalled opportunities to learn and progress whilst offering the best possible care for our patients. As a core member of your team you will work closely with senior and trainee clinical colleagues under the direction of the supervising consultant providing assessment and care across all patients within the service and in line with Trust guidelines and policies.
Main duties of the job
Clinical To manage patients within a defined specialty as determined by the supervising consultant To take a clear, concise history from patients by assessing their health and well-being. Complete necessary documentation ensuring all entries are accurate, legible, timely and in accordance with agreed professional standards and to present findings to consultant or specialty registrar. To perform physical examinations, order appropriate investigations, interpret investigations and formulate a list of differential diagnosis To perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (subject to appropriate training and experience). These include, but not exhaustively: Venepuncture Cannulation Arterial blood gases Injections ECG Urethral catheterisation Nasogastric tube insertion Ascitic tap and paracentesis Instruct and counsel patients and their relatives with regard to mental and physical health issues. To use significant observations made during patients assessment and use these to develop and initiate care and treatment recommendations and devise plans of care. Interpret and utilise data and clinical findings, including patient physiological observations to develop/escalate and seek support to implement treatment plans for patients requiring urgent intervention including fluid resuscitation, oxygen therapy, antibiotics or other urgent treatment. In emergency situations, administer life support to support life-saving procedures.
