Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our friendly Haematology team at Pinderfields Hospital (PGH). You will provide essential technical and administrative support to our Biomedical Scientists, ensuring that blood and other haematology samples are processed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This is a key role within our UKAS-accredited laboratory, contributing to accurate and timely patient results and supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care. The post is primarily late shift cover (1 pm 9 pm, Monday to Friday), with occasional flexibility for training or service needs.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this MLA role include - Receive, label, and prepare blood samples for full blood count, coagulation, ESR, and other haematology investigations. Load and unload samples on automated analysers and assist in routine maintenance and housekeeping tasks. Identify and report unsuitable or incorrectly labelled samples in line with SOPs. Input patient and specimen data accurately onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Support quality and safety standards by following departmental SOPs and UKAS ISO 15189 requirements. Maintain stock levels and check deliveries of consumables and reagents. Communicate effectively with colleagues and service users to ensure timely processing of urgent and routine work. Participate in departmental meetings, training, and competency assessments.
