Job summary
This is an exciting new role with the Care of the elderly, there is an opportunity a permanent full time position for the role of the Ward Assistant. Gate 42 is a busy 45 bedded neck of femur fracture and Elderly medical unit which takes patients from the Emergency department or Gate 41. We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and passionate individual to join and become a ward assistant who is eager to maintain and organise busy wards. To be considered for this post, you must have experience with the above and preferable hospital experience. Ideal candidates need to demonstrate good organisational skills, is a logical thinking person, can prioritise their own workload and help support the nursing staff. Your role role is vital for the upkeeping of the ward.
Main duties of the job
This role is essential in helping the ward to maintain infection, prevention and control procedures in a robust manner ensuring total and professional compliance to avoidance of health care acquired infection. To maintain a robust stock control that will assist in achieving appropriate and cost effective management. To keep ward store cupboards tidy, clean, organised, appropriatley stocked and ensure floors are clear of items. To tidy, damp dust and stock up treatment room, clean utility room, including putting away dressings and fluids received from Pharmacy. To tidy, damp dust and stock up sluice including the decontamination and cleaning of all commodes. To clean apron and glove holders. To keep equipment rooms tidy and clean patient equipment on a daily basis, ensuring all leads are present and ready for use, and are labelled as clean and returned to the store in a timely manner.. To ensure all mattresses both static and rental are stored appropriately. To inspect mattresses on patients beds on a regular basis for stains, tears or sagging in order to condemn and request new. To help ensure that all the ward is tidy including nurses station, corridor and patient areas. To ensure all clutter is removed and broken/obsolete equipment is discarded appropriately.
