Specialist Obesity and Bariatric service Technical Instructor
The closing date is 12 September 2025
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Service (SOBS) team at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust for a full time band 3 Physiotherapy Technical Instructor. The role will be split to provide clinical support to the Physiotherapy team and admin support for the SOBS team and service.
Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust has been awarded new funding to develop a specialist obesity service and extend the existing bariatric service to provide an improved, evidence-based service across Wakefield and North Kirklees. It will also reduce inequalities by targeting priority groups in line with NICE guidelines.
The new Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Service will replace previous T3 and T4 services to provide a patient-centred, needs based service, which will allow seamless and more timely care for patients who require specialist interventions like bariatric surgery, injectable drugs and non-surgical weight-management programmes.
Non-surgical weight-management programmes will include dietetic, clinical psychology and physiotherapy input. Patients will be able to access all parts of the service that are appropriate for them, following multidisciplinary team (MDT) assessment and recommendations.
The service has been commissioned on a permanent basis, so we are looking to expand capacity in all areas of the service. The Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Service has been commissioned to process 310 referrals annually.
Main duties of the job
This new post is based within the Physiotherapy Service as a technical Instructor (60% of job plan) and will also provide admin support to Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Clinical Psychology (40%).
The post-holder will be based at Dewsbury and District Hospital but will be required to attend patient sessions and meetings at other sites within Wakefield .
You will provide support and assistance to the qualified physiotherapy staff within the service, being involved in assessments, treatment and group exercise provision as delegated by the Physiotherapist.
The role involves a wide range of administrative duties including, but not restricted to, using SystmOne (electronic record and data collection system), booking appointments, clinic letter typing, answering patient queries face to face and over the telephone, and data entry.
This work will be carried out within agreed protocols and deadlines.
