The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is offering a fantastic opportunity to join our Estates and Facilities team as an Apprentice Electrician. This is a structured apprenticeship programme, combining practical work with academic study. Youll gain nationally recognised qualifications while working on a wide range of healthcare electrical systems across our hospital sites. Your remuneration will be paid in line with Annex 21 of the NHS Agenda for Change, based on the top of Band 5, as follows: Year 1: 65% of top of Band 5 Year 2: 70% of top of Band 5 Year 3: 75% of top of Band 5 Year 4: On successful completion, eligible for Band 5 qualified post This progressive pay model supports your development and reflects your growing responsibility over the course of the apprenticeship.

Main duties of the job

What You'll Be Doing: Assisting in the maintenance, inspection, and installation of electrical systems and equipment across Trust properties Learning from experienced electricians and engineers in a real world environment Attending college to complete the required technical qualifications (such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation) Developing skills in fault finding, testing, and safety procedures Supporting reactive and planned preventative maintenance work in line with NHS standards

Job responsibilities

  • Under guidance, to carry out day to day routine maintenance of electrical services plant and equipment throughout Trust properties and other organisations as directed.
  • To carry out planned maintenance work.
  • To carry out new electrical works as and when required to BS 7671 IEE Regulations.
  • Interpret work from all instructions, drawings and specifications.
  • To diagnose and repair faults in electrical plant and equipment: - Under supervision year 1
      • Lighting & lighting circuits
      • Electrical Installation Testing
      • Power circuits
      • Low voltage switchgear
      • Fire alarm, emergency lighting and burglar alarm systems
      • Emergency generators and associated switch gear
      • Battery systems
      • Air conditioning equipment and controls
      • Heating controls, boiler controls and associated equipment
      • Portable and fixed equipment
      • Portable appliance testing
      • Nurse call system
      • Laundry equipment
      • Various other hospital equipment and installations
  • To ensure stock levels are maintained and order stock as required.
  • Understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts and to participate in the multi skilling in place (once trained).
  • To carry out work in accordance with working at height and permit to work systems on various functions in various conditions i.e. confined space,
  • To work from ladders, to erect and work from scaffold (once trained) and safe use of safety harness system.
  • To carry out work of a lesser trade.
