We are
excited to present this opportunity for a Trust Registrar role in Emergency
Medicine at the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. Working across multiple
sitesPinderfields, Dewsbury, and Pontefractyou will be part of one of
Englands busiest and most dynamic Urgent and Emergency Medicine services,
delivering exceptional care to over 250,000 patients annually.
This
position is ideal for candidates seeking to develop a broad range of
competencies in Emergency Medicine within a supportive and development-focused
environment. These posts are not recognised UK training posts. Nevertheless,
MYDoc doctors will have a named supervisor and supported in undertaking
scheduled educational opportunities to consolidate and develop.
An Introduction to the Specialty
The
Emergency Medicine Service is delivered on two sites within the Trust with the
Pinderfields hospital site designated as a Major Trauma Unit, Dewsbury is a
local ED and Pontefract was one of the first Urgent Treatment Centres in
England. Our multi-disciplinary team of dedicated and committed professionals
provide high quality care and treatment in what is, when combined across the
three hospitals, consistently ranked as one of the top five busiest Urgent and Emergency
Medicine services in England handling around 250,000 attendances each year.
The
majority of our Consultant team have developed special interests and have been
given the time to chase their own passions and interests. This allows them to really support our
clinical fellows in developing their own special interests as theyve already
been there.
Outlined
below are some of the things we are proud of as a service:
We are an Associate
Teaching Hospital and have won national awards for the quality of our
undergraduate Emergency Medicine teaching program.
Were closely involved in the West Yorkshire Acceleration
Zone looking at trialling different projects to improve our Emergency Care
Standard performance.
Were part of the MERIT programme and take part in
regular exercises to practise dealing with major incidents. The last one
involved setting up an Advanced Casualty Clearing Station (ACCS) close to a
major shopping centre as part of an exercise looking at emergency response for
a terrorist incident. Ours is the only region in the country, which has a MERIT
response like this, meaning we are one of only five acute trusts in the
country, which undertakes these types of response and sends a team to an ACCS.
We do incident training every three years in terms of live exercising and all
the ED staff get the opportunity to do a table-top exercise each year.
The Trust has spent the last three years reconfiguring
services across its hospitals Pinderfields, Dewsbury and Pontefract one of
the largest reconfiguration projects in the country.
Weve been involved in the first few of an ongoing
series of Rapid Process Improvement Workshops (RPIW). These have been
instigated as part of a new Quality Improvement Process for the Trust and they
are based on the world-renowned Virginia Mason lean production methodologies.
We have a great track record in developing our doctors and providing
robust educational opportunities for all staff within the service.
The Service Role
The post will be part of our
cross-site registrar rota, which is compliant with working time regulations and
the 2016 junior doctors contract, averaging 48 hours per week.
Acute care at Mid-Yorkshire is now
focussed primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our doctors
are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites, with support and
supervision from senior colleagues.
The main duties of the post will
include:
Provision of care
with responsibility for the management of patients presenting to the ED.
Referral of
patients to other specialities as appropriate
Involvement in
specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings
Involvement in
relevant administration duties
Teaching and
supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate
Active involvement
in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities
The above

Terms
& Conditions and Tenure
Employment
will be as a MYDoc Registrar on Trust Terms and Conditions of Service.
The MYDoc Trust Registrar posts are
initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months..
Pay Scale
These roles are equivalent to a doctor on specialty training programmes
and will be paid on the equivalent pay scale.
The basic salary scale at £61,825
per annum, ST4 equivalent pay point, rising to £70,425 at the ST6+ equivalent pay point. Additional payments
relating to the rota will be paid on top of the basic salary.
Appraisal & Revalidation
This post
is not recognised for training and brings with it an obligation to engage with
the process of revalidation on an annual basis.
All our Trust appointed doctors are required to
engage positively with appraisal and revalidation. The Trust
has procedures that comply with national recommendations. As a Trust employed
doctor on a fixed term contract successfully appointed applicants will need to
have a prescribed connection with Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust via GMC
Connect and will therefore have Dr Richard Robinson the Medical Director at the
Trust as their GMC Responsible Officer.
Continuing Professional Development
The Trust requires all its doctors to
engage with continuing professional development, guided by the relevant
professional associations or Royal Colleges. Time and funding is provided according
to departmental and Trust policies, subject to approval through the clinical
management structures. There is a programme of mandatory training which all
relevant staff must complete as required.
Research
Medical
staff are encouraged to develop areas of personal and/or research interest.
This can be developed in liaison with the Trusts R&D department and in
line with prevailing policies and research frameworks. The Trust is developing
an expanding and outward-looking research programme.
Educational & Clinical Supervision
The post holder will have a named educational supervisor and be expected
to hold regular meetings with them during their tenure to ensure appropriate
development during their appointment.
Teaching
The Trust is keen to maintain its
reputation for high quality training and to attract the highest calibre of
trainee and career-grade doctors. All senior doctors are involved in training
our doctors, students and other professions. There are many opportunities to
develop training and education roles and many have taken on educational
leadership roles within and beyond the Trust.
Audit and Clinical Governance
There is a rolling half-day clinical
governance programme and audit meetings are well attended and lively. The Clinical
Audit Department assists with setting and supporting an audit programme for the
Service with which all colleagues are encouraged to engage. Clinical Audit is
considered within objectives as part of job planning.
