The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust
This job is now closed
Job summary
The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (MYHT) is seeking highly motivated, clinically able applicants; who wish to gain experience in clinical teaching, medical education and simulation; to work within our highly innovative and exciting medical education team.
These posts have been specifically designed for trainees who are looking to take a 12-month break from their training, after successfully completing their FY2 year, and applicants must have some prior experience in teaching medical undergraduates. This role will enable successful appointees to develop a specialty interest in medical education.
The majority of teaching will be to undergraduate medical students, of all levels; but this role will also offer the exciting opportunity to be involved with postgraduate education, in delivering teaching to foundation year 1 doctors, developing and facilitating our STR1DE Teaching Programme. For those that wish to, there is also opportunity to be involved with delivering the STR2DE teaching programme to foundation 2 doctors.
These are 12-month posts, beginning in August 2023, averaging 3 days per week over the year (0.6 WTE). However, most days are worked during medical student term times; with more time off over the Christmas, Easter and Summer periods.
Successful applicants will work cross-site at Pinderfields Hospital and Dewsbury District Hospital, based within the education centres.
Interviews for this post will take place 3rd April 2023.
Main duties of the job
Clinical fellows receive simulation training, regular appraisals and support to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education, should they wish to do so, during their year in post. There are also opportunities to attend other educational or professional courses. We will support clinical fellows who have significantly contributed to undergraduate educational projects to apply for Junior Doctor Developmental Clinical Teaching Excellence Awards from Leeds Medical School.
Clinical fellows will have teaching commitments on all their educational days; receiving close mentoring and support to develop as teachers, and will have opportunities to add to and improve existing educational programmes.
At Pinderfields, we have excellent simulation facilities; with clinical skills and simulation rooms, high-fidelity 3G SimMan manikins, medium-fidelity ALS/ SimPad manikins, and an extensive range of part-body simulators. We are currently developing a simulation suite, in the Oakwell Centre, at Dewsbury and District Hospital. Clinical fellows facilitate simulation courses for medical students from Y2-Y5, and for foundation doctors.
