A fantastic and rare opportunity has arisen for a permanent position as a Physiotherapy Clinical Specialist to lead our elective and trauma orthopaedic service, and support clinically across the rest of the Trauma, Orthopaedic & Amputee team.
The post is based at both Pinderfields General Hospital for our trauma service and Pontefract General Infirmary for our elective service.
The post is negotiable 0.8-1WTE (30-37.5 hours) and flexibility in working pattern as part of a 7 day service. We are looking for a highly motivated and orthopaedic experienced Physiotherapist to join our service. The post plays a key role in reviewing and enhancing pathways, and developing other team members to deliver a high-quality therapy service for trauma and elective patients to ensure best practice and to reduce length of stay.
You will have to be highly organised with regard to clinical and non-clinical priorities and use of time. This post has a scope for service development and working with the MDT to improve pathways whilst balancing the requirment for supporting the clinical team with designated orthopedci caseoads.
Main duties of the job
The post also requires
the individual to have advanced clinical knowledge and skills for patients with
orthopaedic conditions, and you will be supported to develop your clinical
knowledge if successful in the post. The post is part of an integrated 7 day
working team therefore a willingness to work in this approach is essential. You
must also have advanced knowledge relating to referral pathways and discharge
planning.
We need the successful applicant to take the
lead role for management of patients across the acute inpatient service for the
team (including but not limited to; fractured neck of femur, orthopaedic trauma,
elective orthopaedics, diabetes & endocrinology and provide support the outpatient
amputee service)
We need the individual
to be a team player with excellent leadership. communication, and teaching
skills who is committed to facilitating positive change management, developing
themselves and the team.
We will need the post holder to provide spontaneous and planned advice with
specialist clinical expertise, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers
and other professionals. You will also undertake the specialist and comprehensive
assessment of patients referred from
primary or secondary care, including those with a complex presentation,
using investigative and analytical skills.

Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust is developing an orthopaedic centre of excellence based at Pontefract General Infirmary; this post holder will be required to lead on the development of our therapy service for elective patients; but also to work to support the trauma patients based on the Pinderfields site.
The clinical specialist will work with the therapy service lead,
team leader and other clinical specialists for the respective services to
ensure the delivery of a high-quality leadership, patient centred care and outcome
focused therapy service within the Mid Yorkshire Hospital NHS Trust. The clinical specialist will be a role model
for the team sharing and developing good practice, providing clinical expertise
to the team in Physiotherapy, participating in service developments and be the
therapy lead in elective orthopaedics.
