Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Urologist post within Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (and Urology Area Network (UAN) which includes Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust). This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered. The post has arisen to allow expansion of the services delivered over the UAN, including our new state of the art Elective recovery HUB at Dewsbury You will be based on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although as a team our consultants are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites (Dewsbury District Hospital (DDH), Pontefract General Infirmary (PGI)) including Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust (BHFT). All sites have outpatient facilities including, urology investigation units and clinic rooms. DDH and BHFT have elective inpatient surgical facilities; these patients receive post-operative care by Trust grade doctors and Advanced Care Practitioners. A timetabled consultant is always on-site Monday to Friday to review these patients if required. PGI offers additional day case surgical care. If emergency post-operative care is required, patients are transferred to PGH, or reviewed on-site by the on-call consultant. PGH is the centre for major operating and acute work. Access to PGH for sub-specialist operating is divided between teams so that all consultants can complete their specialist work.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the post will depend on subspecialist interest and tailored to the successful applicants requirements. Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call for adults and children; schedules will take account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working Out of hours on-call duties are currently shared with 13 other colleagues on a 1:14 basis {Monday to Thursday and the following Friday to Sunday}. 2 PAs are given for acute activity which includes an allocation for overnight on calls shared between 12 people. Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. oExamples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles
