Job summary

Job Purpose - Supporting the Director of Post Graduate Medical Education in the management and development of the local training environment for postgraduate medical education within the Trust.

Tenure - Three years subject to satisfactory review and appraisal of the Deputy Postgraduate Dean and Chief Executive/Chief Medical Officer.

The DDPGME (Academic and IMG Lead) Role is intended to support the DPGME in ensuring the development and delivery of high-quality training to Postgraduate Doctors in Training placed within RDaSH.

Main duties of the job

General Deputising Duties:

To support the DPGME in any larger postgraduate medical education workstreams on an ad hoc basis, as capacity allows.

To occasionally represent the DPGME at meetings and events, subject to their availability.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GMC Full Registration.
  • Name on Specialty Register of GMC.
  • Experience in a medical education role e.g. Postgraduate Clinical Tutor, Royal College Advisor, Specialty / College Tutor.
  • An experienced Consultant based in the Trust, undertaking a minimum of 2PAs of DCC per week, with sufficient time to be available/fulfil the role.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Education.
  • Completion of (or equivalent experience) Deanery recognised training events and/or refreshers every 3 years:-
  • Educational Supervision.
  • Training the Trainer.
  • Selection into Specialty.
  • Equality & Diversity.

Experience

Essential

  • Medical education and training.

Desirable

  • Experience of line management of medical and non-medical staff, including an understanding of non-medical pay scales and appraisal processes.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of management structures in medical education and awareness of recent changes in the delivery of medical education, nationally and locally.
  • nterest & enthusiasm for improving delivery of medical training and Continuing Professional Development.
  • Knowledge of assessment methods.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Postgraduate Deaneries and their responsibilities for junior doctors and dentists in training.
