Job summary
Laurel Ward is a specialist older adult inpatient service providing high-quality assessment, treatment, and recovery-focused care for individuals with functional mental health conditions and organic presentations, including dementia.
The Band 6 Charge Nurse will provide visible clinical leadership, coordinating daily ward activity and ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred care for older adults with complex mental health and physical health needs. The post-holder will act as a role model, support junior staff, and contribute to maintaining high standards of governance, safety, and therapeutic engagement.
Working closely with the Ward Manager and multidisciplinary team, the Charge Nurse will uphold the Trust's values and RDaSH's 28 Promises, promoting dignity, compassion, and a positive ward culture. The role requires strong clinical skills, confident decision-making, and the ability to lead shifts while supporting continuous improvement across the service.
Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated Band 6 Charge Nurse to provide visible clinical leadership, coordinate daily ward activity, and ensure safe, effective, person-centred care.
Working closely with the Ward Manager and MDT, you will uphold Trust values and RDaSH's 28 Promises, fostering dignity, compassion, and a positive ward culture. Strong clinical skills, confident decision-making, and the ability to lead shifts are essential.
Key responsibilities include: leading shifts; supporting complex decision-making; delivering evidence-based care; overseeing care planning and documentation; ensuring compliance with MCA, DoLS, MHA and safeguarding; coordinating staffing and delegation; maintaining a safe ward environment; completing risk assessments; responding to incidents; promoting medication safety; engaging families and carers; supporting discharge planning; contributing to audits, QI work, and service development; and ensuring accurate documentation.
We are looking for an RMN with experience in mental health (ideally older adults), strong leadership skills, and a commitment to compassionate, person-centred care.
