Job summary
As part of Doncaster Stop Smoking in Pregnancy Service, we offer support and interventions to people who attend our community-based services, to help them to stop smoking and become smoke free. The programme will also provide support to significant others in the family who wish to quit.
The Stop Smoking in Pregnancy service programme recognises smoking as an addiction (tobacco dependency) and that it is a chronic, relapsing clinical condition that prematurely kills at least half of people who smoke and has significant consequences for the unborn child. Smoking is seen as a medical condition that can be treated, rather than as a lifestyle choice.
This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting families to stop smoking, breastfeeding and positive parenting.
Main duties of the job
Specifically, the post holder will:
Have an instrumental role to support the Trust's Stop Smoking in Pregnancy Service and Strategy, as part of the Integrated Community Health Visiting team.
Providing specific and individualised stop smoking support to pregnant woman and families in a flexible, holistic and innovative way. Post holder will also work closely with Maternity services to support the NHS Long Term Plan and Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle.
Engage patients in a community and clinical setting and motivate those who smoke by offering evidence-based behavioural support.
Act as a smokefree champion promoting smoke free message through their day-to-day work.
As well as offering patients' advice and support, advisers will also be expected to carry out Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring and educate and recommend appropriate Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) under direct supervision of team leader.
This role is intended to tackle health inequalities across our Doncaster by providing an outstanding service by educating, supporting and guiding those who need intervention to stop smoking for good.
