Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced psychological professional to join our Rotherham Care Group Acute Care Directorate Operational Leadership Team. This is a core part of the clinical/operational leadership within our recently established directorate structure. We are looking for an experienced clinician, with excellent clinical and leadership skills and a strong drive for working collaboratively as part of teams and systems to enhance services. This is a new role within the care group and networking with those in similar roles across the trust will be encouraged.

The postholder will join the existing Acute Directorate Service Manager, Matron and Lead Medic as a leadership team, taking responsibility for the safe and effective delivery of acute mental health services. Management of other senior psychological professions as well as strategic joint working with the care group director for psychological professions will also be a core part of this role. You will also be supported to join our recently launched Leadership Development Offer.

It is expected that the successful candidate will assist the Care Group Director of Psychological Professional with job planning and with some aspects of the line management of Psychological Professionals in their Directorate.

Main duties of the job

This is a senior clinical role within the new directorates. The postholder will work alongside the directorate service manager(s) and matron to provide clinical expertise within the directorate management team.

The postholder will be a collaborative, visible, inclusive and compassionate Lead Psychological Professional with values and behaviours that inspire understanding and trust, build inclusion and reduce inequalities.

As a minimum the successful candidate will, together with the other leads in the directorate:

o Provide evidence based clinical advice to the directorate leadership team

o Provide advice on the recruitment / retention / performance of psychological professionals to the directorate as well as supporting professional development.

o Provide evidence-based advice on psychological research & innovation to the Directorate.

o Be a visible and approachable point of contact to trainees, students, and other learners within the directorate.

It is expected that each Lead Psychological Professional will work with the Care Group Director of Psychological Professional to develop a bespoke job plan for this part of their job. This will involve working on specific leadership projects within the directorate or beyond and these will be based on the Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability of the Care Group Director for Psychological Professionals.

  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice (i.e. specialist therapy or neuropsychology)
  • Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Registration with BPS/ ACP
