Have you got experience in a care setting? If so, the apprentice PWP role may offer you a great career development opportunity. Are you passionate about promoting meaningful and effective therapeutic experiences for patients and dedicated to this process both personally and professionally? Then we want to hear from you.

We welcome applications from candidates who do not have a degree or who may not have recent study experience or qualifications, but who do have good experience in a caring capacity such as in a support, care or admin work role for example, and who are interested in supporting patients with anxiety and depression using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) guided self-help.

If this applies to you, and you are successful at interview we have an apprenticeship scheme to help you become a qualified PWP, this will be a full-time programme including academic study and practical exposure. The training is offered in conjunction with the University of Exeter commencing March 2025.

The post-holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider (Exeter University), as specified within National Low Intensity curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

After successfully completing the apprenticeship and becoming a qualified PWP, there is an opportunity to apply for a permanent PWP post within RDaSH Talking Therapies.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within primary care settings alongside other Primary Care Mental Health Professionals providing a clinical service to people experiencing common mental health problems. During your training with us, you will work alongside qualified PWPs undertaking mental health assessments and providing brief psychological interventions in line with the National Institute of Clinical Excellence guidance. This will involve facilitating guided self- help interventions on a one-to-one basis by telephone, face to face, group and online. We are committed to ensuring that all successful trainees who complete the course are equipped to meet the requirements of the PWP role Talking Therapies.

The post-holder will work within the Talking Therapies service in providing high volume low intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self- management interventions to patients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary.

The service has a strong commitment towards Continuing Professional Development, staff wellbeing and providing quality services for patients.

This is NOT a remote only post and will involve attending training both online and in Doncaster and attending the NHS Talking Therapy Services across RDaSH.
