Job summary

This multidisciplinary team operates across the geographical areas of Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, and we are inviting applications from experienced practitioners, to join our innovative, collaborative and trauma-informed service.

The Forensic Outreach Liaison Service (FOLS) aims to reduce or safely manage behaviours of people with a learning disability and/or autism that may lead to them having contact with the criminal justice system. FOLS also aims to reduce the number of people with a learning disability and/or autism who require inpatient facilities. This is achieved through six core functions of support:

  • Forensic risk assessment and management.
  • Offence specific therapeutic interventions and treatments.
  • Case management.
  • Training to internal & external agencies.
  • Consultation.
  • In-reach support, to ensure safe and timely discharge.

We are looking for thoughtful and reflective practitioners, who can build meaningful therapeutic relationships with clients, carers and providers of care. The practitioner should have specialist knowledge and expertise in working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism. The practitioner should have specialist knowledge and expertise in working with people who present a forensic risk. We work in partnership with service users, families and care providers, to ensure safe and effective care is delivered to the service users.

We reserve the right to close this advert early should there be a high number of applicants.

Main duties of the job

The practitioner will have a good understanding of approaches to support clients with complex needs in community and inpatient settings, and will be supported to provide training, consultation and interventions related to the management of risk. The practitioner will hold a caseload of clients, supporting clients with their pathway out of secure settings, into the community, as well as supporting individuals in the community, to try to prevent contact with the criminal justice system or secure services. The practitioner will prioritise the people they are working with, treating service users with kindness, respect and compassion.

As a team, FOLS aim to support service users to live safely within local communities. We aim to support individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism to obtain good and meaningful lives in their communities, something which is important for those individuals who may be at risk of engaging in offending behaviors. We have a strong focus on prevention and early intervention, ensuring that service users are protected from potential harm, and the community is kept safe.

FOLS recognise that the practitioners effectiveness will be reliant on good access to support, training and supervision, as working with individuals who pose risk of harm to others, can be a challenging and traumatic area of work and the successful candidate will have access to a wide range of support, training and supervision.
