Job summary

To work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team assessing occupational needs and providing clinically effective and efficient occupational therapy interventions on an individual and group basis for people with mental health needs.

To work in line with service priorities and objectives and promote person-centred approaches and a culture of recovery, enablement and well-being.

To assist in the supervision of support staff and students and contribute to the development of a range of Occupational Therapy based therapeutic activities in partnership with service users, carers and staff.

To develop links with statutory and voluntary sector community resources and ensure that on-going occupational needs are addressed as part of a safe effective discharge and occupational therapy pathway process.

Main duties of the job

To implement the occupational therapy process - assessing occupational needs, performance and risks - planning and carrying out goal orientated interventions. Review, reassess and evaluate progress adapting as necessary.

To demonstrate excellence in clinical practice through assessment, treatment and evaluation of individual programmes of care and group activities.

To direct and supervise support staff in implementing group and individual treatments.

To participate in the development of group and individual activities enabling service users to work towards occupational goals in line with current evidence-based practice

To undertake a key worker role for a defined number of service users with a primary need for occupational therapy intervention

To liaise with community mental health team occupational therapists and other colleagues to ensure service users' ongoing occupational needs are addressed, along with support to access resources in the wider community as part of a safe effective discharge

To liaise with a range of external partners to develop opportunities for service users to access resources in the wider community

To contribute to regular evaluation of therapeutic groups, in conjunction with service users, Senior Occupational Therapist and multi-disciplinary team, to ensure a balanced programme of activities
