St Johns Hospice provides treatment and support for patients with, life limiting illness who require complex symptom management and end of life care providing an integrated service to patients and their families throughout the Doncaster locality

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, motivated Sister/Charge Nurse for its 10 bedded In Patient Unit to cover maternity leave. You will be a forward thinking experienced registered nurse who is committed to the delivery of excellent care, to lead a team of like-minded individuals in developing and delivering the strategic direction of the hospice.

You will have nursing experience with some leadership experience and able to demonstrate appropriate demonstrable experience in Palliative Care experience in some form.

Main duties of the job

The Post Holder will be expected to:

  • Deliver and monitor person centred plans of care e.g. assisting with activities of daily living, administration of medication assessment of symptoms and monitoring of documentation on a daily basis.
  • Lead and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised evidence-based care.
  • Provide positive role modelling and support to junior members of staff / ancillary workers and volunteers
  • Work as a contributing member of the multi-professional team leading and supporting in the decision making process throughout the patient's care pathway.
  • Monitor and contribute to the compliance of quality and safety within the Hospice.
  • Develop and implement standard setting initiatives, protocols and quality assurance programmes including audit.
  • Assist the Clinical Team Leader in the dissemination and delivery of high standards of care
  • Be responsible for day-to-day supervision and operational management of staff / Ward area in the absence of the Clinical Team Leader.
  • Have line management responsibility for allocated staff within the Hospice under the supervision of the Clinical Team leader
  • Participate in training of other staff where appropriate
  • Assist Clinical Team Leader to manage sickness / absence proactively within the Hospice
