Job summary

The Head of Risk Management is an exciting new role within our organisation, offering a great opportunity to join us at a dynamic time of change. Our Clinical and Organisational Strategy was launched in 2023, followed by the implementation of a new operating model and governance structure, leading to the need for this new position.

This role reports to the Director of Corporate Assurance and is a key part of the Directorate that oversees Trust governance and has a key role in delivering our organisation's new operating model.

The role will collaborate closely with the Head of Corporate Assurance (HoCA), but also work right across the Trust with colleagues within the other directorates in our care groups and our backbone corporate services.

We are looking for a self-motivated, personable, and confident individual who can work independently but also very much part of a wider team. We expect the person to spend time in all three localities, building relationships, networking, and being a point of contact for advice and counsel on all matters related to risk. Efficient diary and time management skills are essential, as well as the ability to travel.

Delivery of training and providing resources (including analytical reports and narrative commentary) to aid colleagues from ward to Board is a fundamental part of this role.

Main duties of the job

They are responsible for embedding and maintaining strong governance and risk management throughout the Trust. Additionally, they will actively promote risk management and assist colleagues in implementing processes that support this and enhance resilience.

Staying abreast of the latest best practices and innovations in risk management is vital to ensure the Trust's risk management system evolves. This will involve finding new ways to analyse and report system data to effectively identify and manage risks, learn from them, and provide assurance.

Furthermore, this role will include designing and delivering risk management training or other related training as needed. The individual will also offer support to the Director of Corporate Assurance as necessary to fulfil the wider portfolio.

Knowledge and skills

  • Ability to formulate, plan, develop, organise, and implement a broad range of complex activities across the Trust, including adapting and adjusting to deal with uncertainty, as necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills underpinned by a confident and professional manner (written and oral) with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to manage diverse workload while dealing with frequent interruptions
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  • Ability to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to interpret, analyse and present complex data, producing written reports to a high standard
