Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist or a Parent Infant Psychotherapist to join our multidisciplinary Perinatal Mental Health Team (PMHT) in Rotherham. In line with the long-term plan (LTP,) we are committed to offering timely access to evidence-based psychological treatments to mums and infants that we support.

The post holder will provide high-quality, comprehensive and specialist psychoanalytically informed assessments and interventions for parents and infants supported by the Rotherham perinatal team. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and formulations of risk factors and offer advice on risk management, specifically in relation to risk associated with difficulties in attachment between mum and baby. The post holder will offer psychoanalytically informed advice, consultation and training to others involved in service users care, specifically focused on ways to assess, understand, and support the development of healthier bonding and attachment in parent-infant dyads. The post holder will work closely with the Lead Perinatal Psychologist contributing towards service development and to improve access to and quality of attachment-focused treatments for those supported by the perinatal team. They will contribute towards service audit and evaluation and implement service development changes in line with the local and national legislation.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialist parent-infant (attachment based) assessments and interventions within the specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team (PMHT).

To promote specialist parent-infant assessments and therapy, and to inform perinatal care planning and systemic ways of working in the PMHT using psychoanalytic perspectives.

To contribute a psychoanalytic perspective to the service offered by local multi-disciplinary services and agencies working with ante-natal and postnatal women, their partners and their babies.

The post-holder should be able to respond in a skilled and sensitive manner and to be able to sustain a strong and containing therapeutic relationship over time and to work with parent's defensive processes.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines.

To contribute towards audit, policy, service development and research.
