Job summary

SUPPORT WORKER - DIAMOND ACTIVITY & THERAPEUTIC SERVICES Various hours (12-30 hour posts available)

We are offering an exciting opportunity for someone with an interest in supporting people with a learning disability to join the team at the Diamond Activity and Therapeutic Services in Doncaster. You will work alongside senior staff & be supported to deliver person centred care in accordance with support plans & agreed activities. Diamond Activity & Therapeutic Services is part of the larger Learning Disability Service in Doncaster and works closely with the staff in our community learning disability teams. Essential - successful candidates will hold an NVQ level2 in Care or equivalent Care Certificate & are able to show a genuine interest in working with people with a learning disability. Excellent interpersonal skills will be required to communicate with a range of professionals, services, clients & carers. A flexible attitude is imperative, as well as an understanding of person-centred care and treating clients with dignity. You will be fully supported in your role having the opportunity to access continuous professional development.

The core hours of service operation are Monday - Friday between the hours of 0830-1630, with shift patterns being of 6 hours (excluding breaks).

Main duties of the job

SUPPORT TOWARDS SERVICE USERS

To actively participate in day services activity sessions.

To participate in delivery of personalised care, including activities and meeting personal hygiene and nutritional needs of the service users under the direction of senior staff. Several of our service users are wheelchair users and there is a requirement to use hoists and push wheelchairs.

To ensure the service users personal information is always treated with the strictest of confidence. Any requests to disclose information must be relayed to senior staff.

Where required use basic Makaton with service users.

To escort service users on site when required.

If required participate in outings under the supervision of senior staff.

To assist in promoting appropriate friendships, with other service users.

To participate in service users' reviews.

Assist in promoting a healthy lifestyle and respecting the service user's choices and beliefs, promoting dignity, respect and privacy where necessary.

To respect and assist in maintaining the personal property of service users brought into the department, following Trust polices and procedures.

To protect all individuals from any form of abuse, either physical, psychological, financial, sexual or any instance of intimidation. Any suspected abuse to be brought to the attention of the Trust.

To inform/alert the senior staff of any changes in service users i.e. change in health or behaviour to ensure appropriate interventions are undertaken.
