About the role

We are seeking aHead of Safety & Compliance to lead and shape the Trust's approach to patient safety, clinical effectiveness, health & safety, and regulatory compliance. This is a pivotal role within our Clinical Governance function, where you will be the subject matter expert, ensuring our services are safe, effective, and responsive.

You will oversee our specialist patient safety, clinical effectiveness and health & safety teams, and ensure full compliance with CQC standards. Your work will directly impact the quality of care we provide, helping us to continuously improve and innovate.

Main duties of the job

Main duties are;

  • To support the Associate Director of Clinical Governance with delivering core Clinical Governance functions to the Trust.
  • To manage and lead teams to deliver the functions, in alignment with the Trust objectives, using and analytical, research and innovative approach using effective management/leadership skills to deliver through the Clinical Governance teams.
  • To be the expert in the specialist area for Patient safety, Health & Safety and Regulatory compliance within the Trust and to oversee the delivery of all aspects of safety and compliance, through specialist teams within the Clinical Governance function within the Trust.
  • To use systems available to identify, monitor and improve the Trusts in meeting regulatory requirements. Where possible, aligning and triangulating functions for efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Health and Safety degree level qualification
  • Chartered Member of IOSH or IIRSM
  • Supplementary specialist training to postgraduate Degree/Master level, including relevant health and safety experience and qualification

Desirable

  • BS OHSAS 18001:2007/ 45001 internal auditor
  • Quality Improvement training/qualification
  • Project management qualification
  • Masters qualification in a related field or willingness to work towards
  • Fellow of the IIRSM/ IOSH

Experience

Essential

  • Highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory and experience in Health and Safety and compliance with national regulations and standards.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge of incident investigation and contributory factors analysis methodologies in line with PSIRF.
  • Experience of regulatory assurance management delivered through teams
  • Identification of themes and interpretation of national health, safety and compliance strategies
  • Experience of leading and managing an improvement focussed multi-disciplinary teams
  • Responsible for policy implementation and development relevant to role.
  • Experience of developing and implementing sustainable systems strategies and policies for the management of non-clinical risk
  • Relevant leadership/ management experience within Healthcare to be able to manage a team or department including recruitment, development and performance management
  • Extensive experience of development of annual workplans linked to organisational objectives and regulatory priorities.
  • Experience of leading responses to requests and inspection from regulators and specifically the HSE and CQC.
