Job summary
The Specialist Midwife in Public Health will provide visible leadership and evidence based information and education to women and their families, and health professionals, in line with East Sussex Healthcare Trust (ESHT) policies, the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards, the NMC Code and current public health guidance.
The post holder will work in partnership with service users, the multidisciplinary team and local stakeholders to improve and protect health and wellbeing, and improve the health of the poorest families (Department of Health 2013)
Main duties of the job
Key work will focus upon improving outcomes of women with modifiable risk factors such as obesity, smoking, reducing the interpregnancy interval, and developing and implementing processes to secure a year on year increase in uptake of immunization.
It is anticipated that the post holder will possess the requisite skills and abilities to be the care coordinator for a group of women with the most complex health needs. Improvements in the modifiable factors of health for women during pregnancy will impact positively on the wider health community. The post holder will represent ESHT at local, regional and national level when appropriate, influencing service development in relation to public health.
The post holder will work closely with the Senior Clinical Midwifery Management Team to further develop related pathways and guidelines to assure appropriate and responsive care
