Job summary
This is a post for a Consultant Physician with a special interest in Diabetes & Endocrinology for the Cardiovascular Clinical Unit within Medicine at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust
Main duties of the job
The team is housed within the Bending and Sheppard Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Eastbourne and at Conquest the team is housed within the Diabetes and Endocrine centre in the Hospital.
The department has a wide variety of sub-specialty interests including:
- Pre and antenatal Diabetes & Endocrine care.
- Multidisciplinary Foot Team (MDFT) - Urgent and planned Diabetic foot care.
- Inpatient Diabetes.
- Intermediate care.
- A large cohort of CSII & CGMS patients with engagement across the ICB to adopt HCL
- Diabetes and renal disease.
- Pituitary tumours as part of the Sussex Pituitary Tumour Network. Bi-weekly MDT and monthly Combined Pituitary clinic.
- Adrenal disease - including an established biweekly MDT meeting.
- Parathyroid disease - including MDT meeting.
- Young adult and transition diabetes clinic.
- Community Diabetes Clinics

- MBBS or equivalent
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
- Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- Name on Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment or to have obtained Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine within 6 months of interview date

Training/Experience
Essential
- Wide experience in all aspects of Diabetes and Endocrinology with a specialist interest culminating in the award of a CCT.
- Evidence of participation in management
- Understanding of recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance and Appraisal
- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit
- Understanding of the role of research
- Enthusiasm for teaching medical students, nursing staff and other professional groups
Desirable
- Experience on risk factor assessment in diabetes
- Management course and/or qualifications
- Knowledge of the structure of Health Service
- Completion and/or Publication of audit projects
- Experience of clinical research culminating in presentation and publication of original studies, review articles, etc, relevant to speciality
- Ability to lead clinical research project
