Working as part of the Orthopaedic Practitioner Team.
To be responsible for providing specialist orthopaedic service within orthopaedic outpatients to include casting and splinting assessments and application of treatments whilst working to deliver a high standard of patient care within a multidisciplinary team
Main duties of the job
? The post holder will be required to lead orthopaedic/diabetic feet outpatient clinics for the application and removal of casting materials and complex orthotics and splints/braces and bone healing systems. This will include a review and follow up service? To provide a comprehensive orthopaedic casting service Trust wide. To include the emergency department, podiatry, vascular services, therapies and inpatient areas.? The post holder will continue to professionally develop in line with the British Orthopaedic Association guidelines / the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of professional standards to facilitate learning and contribute to the professional development of bothFORM B1medical and nursing staff.? The post holder will carry the plaster room bleep during normal working hours and be available for timely support and advice across the wider Trust. Where intervention and support is required.? The post holder will be required to support, teach and develop trainee orthopaedic practitioners, junior medical and nursing staff.? Essential
- Registered Orthopaedic Practitioner with current Association of Orthopaedic Practitioners (AOP) membership British Orthopaedic Association Casting Certificate and relevant CPD to degree equivalent OR Registered Nurse with additional qualification relevant to specialty Current Nursing and Midwifery Council membership
- Basic casting certificate
Desirable
- Evidence of relevant continued professional development in orthopaedics/casting treatments
- Mentorship qualification
Experience
Essential
- 3 years Orthopaedic experience in NHS or private healthcare provider
- Minimum 1 years casting room/emergency unit experience
- Wound care assessment and management and aseptic technique skills
- Experience of mentorship/supervision of trainees/junior staff
Desirable
- Maintains a professional portfolio
- Evidence of fitting appliances and supports including wrist braces, knee braces or air cast boots.
- Evidence of managing complex wounds
