Job summary
James Ward is a 22 bedded acute Cardiology Ward incorporating a 6-bedded CCU with the ability to undertake continuous cardiac monitoring on all patients. We also admit neutropenic sepsis patients to our side rooms so work closely with the specialist oncology/haematology teams.CCU is a 6 bedded unit within James Ward that admits patients with acute coronary syndromes and haemodynamic compromise related to various cardiac pathology. We are skilled in nursing patients with CPAP, IABP and temporary Trans venous pacing in progress. Our teams are integrated with Cardiac Cath Lab & envisage this post holder rotating to work within the Cath Lab.We have multiple admission routes into the unit including direct ambulance admissions to CCU & promote a multidisciplinary approach to achieve the quality & safety standards we expect. We provide a supportive atmosphere, mentorship & clinical supervision & are committed to professional development of all staff. Team working is an integral part of the running of the Ward with all staff enabled & empowered to make a real difference for their patients.
You must be a 1st level Registered Nurse with at least 2 years recent Band 6 Sister /Charge Nurse experience in an acute hospital setting. You should have at least two years' experience within Cardiology whilst utilising good organisational skills, experience in teaching, supervision & assessment.
Main duties of the job
You will need to provide strong leadership, possess excellent communication skills & be able to develop and support staff with clinical & professional expertise. You will also be expected to function effectively under pressure without compromising standards of care & professionalism.
You will be educated to degree level, ideally having undertaken a Cardiac pathway. The ENB 998/mentorship is essential as is an awareness of the current professional, research and practice issues & an understanding of modern human resource management.
You must have advanced clinical knowledge & skills, be willing to participate in research and audit projects & will also be expected to work with a certain amount of autonomy. In return you will be offered excellent managerial support & commitment to both your personal & professional development.
The post holder is accountable for their ward/department and will:
Be a professional role model leading and co-ordinating the ward / unit team, taking 24 hour responsibility for the management of the ward. This role involves managing a wide range of complex and competing priorities.
- Promote and monitor safe and effective practice leading to high quality care.
- Enhance patient experience by ensuring that patient needs are placed at the centre of care delivery.
- provide effective leadership and management
- Contribute to the delivery of the organisation's objectives by maintaining robust budgetary control and levels of activity.
