Job summary
- This is a replacement post for a LED F1 doctor to the Department of General Surgery in East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
- The appointee will be based at Conquest Hospital but this may change depending on service need.
Main duties of the job
The Foundation Year One Doctors and LED FY1 Doctors in General Surgery undertake a 1:10 full shift work pattern weekends. Prospective cover is required.
Main duties include:
- Clerking of emergency and elective patients ensuring that mandatory documentation is completed.
- Admit and investigate emergency admissions, under the supervision of the CT, Registrar and Consultant.
- Ward duties to ensure patient pathways are progressed.
- Timely assessment of patients in order discharge planning can be facilitated.

- Venepuncture and cannulation of patients when appropriate and necessary, ensuring all consenting has been agreed with the patient.
- Undertake ward duties to ensure patient pathways are progressed.
- Discuss with relatives any clinical concerns and plans as necessary.
- Timely writing of discharge summaries.
- Full post-operative care.
- Timely assessment of patients in order discharge planning can be facilitated.
- Adherence to all ESHT policies including Bare Below the Elbows.
- Ensure accurate completion of documentation.
- Attend Consultant ward rounds.
- As necessary attend operating theatre sessions for observation and possible assisting.
- Any other duties appropriate to the post.
